ABSTRACT: The contemporary understanding of cultural heritage enables different approaches and demands for the right to memory, rising practices and projects that start from collaborative processes, initiatives from organized civil society and the Government. In this regard, the field of Heritage Education stands out for having promoted social participation in cultural heritage policies and actions in Brazil, mainly through the participatory inventory method. These policies and actions gain strength and influence each other through the use of digital technologies, unveiling other layers of the complexity of contemporary society. With the constant evolution of Information and Communications Digital Technology (ICDT), the possibilities for working with cultural references of local communities and classified cultural heritage are immeasurable. In this paper, we reflect on how georeferencing technologies and the Internet can contribute to the democratization of heritage, based on the idea of open source and collaborative heritage. To support these issues, we approach the methods of Participatory Inventory and Social Cartography based on their similarities and the challenges presented by the digital medium, problematizing the role of citizens and the educational process. Therefore, our main question is: What relationship do we want to build between society and heritage through digital technology? 02/08/2023 NPDDPatrimônioBaobáxia
